The Kumatha Residence is owned by us, Viji and Edgar. Viji was born in Sri Lanka and departed to the UK in 1975 to finish her education. On completion of her education, Viji remained in the UK taking positions in IT software development. Edgar was born in London, UK and pursued a career in engineering.
We both love to travel and enjoy experiencing new cultures and people. Returning to Sri Lanka annually since 2017 for our winter escapes, we decided to seize the opportunity to invest in our own property in 2025 and immerse ourselves deeper into Sri Lanka, its culture, and its people.
After exploring the island extensively, we found this place to rest and enjoy our retirement. The Kumatha Residence is named after Viji's parents. Her dad's name is Kuma and her mum's name Tha. Together, this formed the name of our beautiful guesthouse, The Kumatha Residence.
Opening our guesthouse to guests like you, we hope to share not only our home but also our love for this Pearl of the Indian Ocean. We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Kumatha Residence.

The Kumatha Residence is situated in a local residential area, tucked away from the busy beach road of Negombo. This location offers a truly local experience in the heart of Negombo's beach area.
A 5-minute’walk brings you to the beach and a street full of cafes, restaurants and shops. A 10-minute tuktuk ride takes you to Negombo city center. And conveniently just 25 minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport.
The property offers a selection of self-catering accommodations; 3 large pool-view studio apartments with balconies and a detached colonial bungalow with garden view.
Negombo
Negombo is a major coastal city in western Sri Lanka famous for its large fishing industry, sandy beaches and rich colonial history. It offers an unforgettable tropical escape. Renowned for its golden sand beaches and warm Indian Ocean waters, it’s a heaven for sunseekers and beach lovers. The gently swaying palmtrees create a serene backdrop for relaxation and adventure.
A boat ride on Negombo Lagoon to see mangroves, monkeys, birds, and traditional fishing villages. A guided eco-tour to explore the Muthurujawela Wetlands. Visit the Hamilton Canal (also known as the Dutch Canal): a historic Dutch-and-British-built water channel used for draining unwanted salt water out of the Muthurujawela Wetlands and also served as a vital trade route for moving goods via traditional cargo canoes.
Negombo’s multi-cultural heritage is evident in its colonial architecture. Also known as 'Little Rome' because of the very high concentration of Roman Catholic residents and dozens of stunning churches like St. Mary’s , St Anne’s and St. Sebastian’s Churches. Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, and mosques are reflecting the diverse cultural influences.
Food enthusiasts will be delighted in Negombo's vibrant fish markets and beachside restaurants, serving the freshest catch.
